Chorus - Kinetic Art Installation
A leading London-based group of artists, United Visual Artists, approached ABI to help re-design a complex artistic installation due to be installed in Durham Cathedral. The piece itself consisted of eight large pendulums hung from the ceiling, each of which could swing independently. At the bottom of each pendulum arm was a ‘bob’ which contained two large circuit boards full of LEDs, and a speaker.
ABI designed the housing for the control system which was laser-cut to fit all the required connectors. We produced a complete wiring schedule and re-wired the entire system in time for the installation at Durham.
At the same time, the client wanted the LED boards within each ‘bob’ redesigned to be bigger, brighter and more controllable. ABI produced schematics, PCB layouts and the finished board within 3 weeks. These were then built in-house resulting in a very happy client!
