ABI are proud to sponsor Leigh Technology Academy who have entered several teams into a national racing league, Greenpower Racing. The league aims to promote engineering in schools and colleges, where pupils design and build an electric vehicle that must complete as many laps of a track as possible in the minimum time.
ABI provided an ICS system to team ‘Leigh Stormers’ to provide a telemetry link between the car and the rest of the team on the track side. The ICS was interfaced to temperature sensors, speed sensors, current sensors and a battery monitor. All this information was then packaged up and the data sent by a highly reliable radio link to a laptop.
ABI produced a Windows-based user interface specifically for the project which displays graphs of the data in real time and allows the data to be exported for later analysis.
2009 was a great success for the team’s inaugural season, when the team reached the finals. Next year a new car is being designed, and with ABI’s ICS system on-board the aim is to finish even higher in the league!
